Hello TugNuts!

Quick question and sanity check for me. I am away from my boat right now or could check this relatively quickly I think, but I have not had to run the A/C away from shore power or the heat at all for almost a year, so my brain is fuzzy on two things. I have the edition with the generator, not the furnace. The generator allows me to run A/C when not on shore power, but for heat, I need to run the engine, not just the generator--is that correct? I cannot remember if the generator will also provide heat, or just power. Thanks!

The A/C provides heat as well as cooling

On our Cutwater 28 we have 2 sources for heat. The AC unit is also a heater and can be run off shore power. We also have a blower that takes heat from the engine. That control is at the captain's station. That needs the engine running.

I have same model but 2017. The generator is needed to power the A/C but it itself doesn't generate heat for the cabin. The AC basically provides heat through reverse A/C. The engine is not needed for running the A/C and isn't directly wired for that. The engine can generate cabin heat but just for the blower vents at the helm. The A/C will blow air into the cabin (vent mid-gallery behind helm) and into the forward berth. Of course there's a separate A/C and controller for the galley and the forward berth.

Thanks all! Somewhere along the line I completely missed that the A/C could also be a heat source. It all makes sense now. Thanks again!

It’s nice when the surprises is a good one 🙂
