Looking to extend my anchor rode by splicing in a new section of rope to the existing setup. I'd like to get at least 350ft total for 7:1 in 50ft depth. Ideally, 375-400ft to account for the bow to water and tide changes. The stock 250ft isn't cutting it.

Does anyone know the size of rope installed on a 2018 R31 tug? I know the chain is 5/16 G4, but I can't tell what the rope is beside that it is 3-strand.

Thanks!

Rope size is 5/8”. I would tend to just replace with an entire new length though. Splicing can be unwieldy and unsatisfactory adding new rope rode to old, especially if the old rode has seen some significant service.

I agree with Wee Venture. I would not be comfortable with a splice on my rode. Bite the bullet and buy a new rode and I would go with 8 plait. It is much more flexible and will lay down nicely in the anchor locker.

Have you thought of replacing it with straight chain? We tend to anchor in some deeper water up north so I went with 300' 5/16 G4 and it works great. Lots of room in the locker still and I sleep better. More weight but doesnt seem to change the list or ride.
