I am excited to present my 3rd Annual Roaming Rondy!

This year we will travel to Desolation Sound, with our marquee destination being Toba Wilderness Marina, and the highlight of our trip will feature The Laughing Oyster Restaurant in Okeover Inlet. I went to these locations last year, and yes, they are that good to go back to again this year!

Unlike previous ARR’s, this year’s rendezvous will include both marinas and anchorages. Marinas have been selected for not only their docks, services and facilities, but also the seaside charm of the towns they are nestled within, and how each town embraces their waterfront community, together with the daytime activities they offer. 2-day anchorages were selected for their tranquil nature, and nearby features of freshwater lakes for water recreation and daytime hikes.

The ARR is a non-sponsored, self-supported event. You can participate in one or all ports of call, and unless noted otherwise, you will be required to contact each marina to reserve moorage as part of the Annual Roaming Rondy group. Please notify me of your participation, by port, for my headcount: roaming.rondy@gmail.com

Our rendezvous starts on August 11th at Port of Sidney Marina and disbands at Union Steamship Co. Marina on August 25th. Our float plan is as follows:

1. August 11, 12 - Port of Sidney Marina, 250.655.3711, VHF 66A

2. August 13 - Nanaimo Port Authority - Boat Basin Marina, 250.755.1216, VHF 67

3. August 14, 15 - Comox Fisherman's Wharf, VHF 66A

4. August 16 - Gorge Harbour Marina, 250.935.6433, VHF 66A

5. August 17, 18 - Roscoe Bay (anchorage), stern tie preferred, swing ok

6. August 19, 20 - Toba Wilderness Marina, 250.830.2269, VHF 66A

7. August 21 - The Laughing Oyster Restaurant at Okeover, moorage at Government Wharf (first-come, first-served moorage, cash only)

8. August 22, 23 - Teakerne Arm (anchorage), stern tie required; Alternate location: Prideaux Haven

9. August 24 - Secret Cove Marina, 604.885.3533, VHF 66A

10. August 25 – Union Steamship Co. Marina, 604.947.0707, VHF 66A

I will coordinate the group reservations to Comox and Secret Cove Marinas, and The Laughing Oyster Restaurant. Please provide Boat Name, Overall Length, Skipper’s Name, Power Requirements and Tie Preference, together with restaurant participation for headcount, to: roaming.rondy@gmail.com All other ports require individual contact to secure reservations. Port Sidney Marina has online, prioritizing pre-registration, without monetary commitment, until April 1st at: http://www.portsidney.com/reservations. Nanaimo Boat Basin has a non-refundable deposit ($15.75), and recommends reservations by March. Gorge Harbour will hold our reservations block out until March 31. Toba Wilderness Marina prefers online registration to: inquiries@tobawilderness.com providing name, cell #, boat name, overall length, tie preference, and credit card info (card #, exp, ccv, postal code). Union Steamship Co. Marina will hold our reservations block out until March 31.

I look forward to seeing you for another fun time on the water! Once again, boaters can participate in any or all ports.

Clear skies, flat water and tight lines!

Hi Bob,
This sounds like a great trip. We had a great time in Desolation Sound last year. Unfortunately, we won't be able to join you for the entire trip, but as we put our summer cruising plan together we will try and join on one end or the other. I want to See Sidney, and we want to to dine at Laughing Oyster.....We have a few decisions to make!! We will see you on the water!!

Hi Rocky & Tracy,

We would love to have you participate at any of our ports of call.

You have mentioned wanting to go to Princess Louisa Inlet before, so meet us in Sidney and Nanaimo, then go across the Strait of Georgia to Secret Cove and Backeddy Marinas. Backeddy is 30 nm from Malibu Rapids but is also an easy hike to Skookumchuck Rapids... so I would recommend a 2 night stay there. Check Pt. Atkinson tides and do the math for slack tides at Malibu.

After Chatterbox, head north and meet up with us at The Laughing Oyster restaurant... it's worth the effort!
