The ski tow pole on my R 27 is stuck in the down position. Any suggestions for getting it to extend properly?

My r 27 ski pole is sometimes stuck as well. Push down on the top of the pole and then push the release slide across.and hold..release the top of the pole whil;e still holding the release slide button and the pole should pop up. hopefully you can now pull the pole fully up.

I need help understanding which way to slide the release button. I've attached a marked-up picture. What piece (A or B) slides and in what direction (starboard or port) ?

The whole part that you are looking at moves outwards away from the pole. I use the palm of one hand to wiggle the pole up and downwards while pushing out on the lock. I also use silicone lube spray on mine and it helps but it is still difficult. When I first got our boat it was stuck and I had to use a small piece of hardwood and a hammer to get the lock to move.
Here is a pic of the lock in the out position.

We had the same issue. Lots of WD and some jostling with a thin screw driver did the trick. Once free pushing down on the top making sure the release is free worked for us. Did take some time.

I finally was able to get the tow-pole to raise and lower. It took a few days of using PB Blaster and PB Dry Lube, a screw driver and a hammer to get the latch to move. Not dainty work at all 😉
