Very interested. I will be departing from gig harbor in my R23. Please let me know the dates and I will try to make it work.

We have a 25 RT. We plan to go to Alaska May 2020, for 2-3 months, and our travelling companions are in a 38 ft.
We have a sheltie and will likely stay at marinas as much as possible. Our friends may anchor more than us, and our
trip to Alaska and back may not be side by side, as we may wish to see different things, but we plan on connecting at least every other day, so we can basically have our own trip, and also have some social time, and support in case of problems.

We have a Garmin 7212 chartplotter. What is the best BlueVision SD card to get for Alaska? I have found two options so far. The G3 US 517L, but have heard that all the features may not work. The second option is the G2 HXCA015R, which has much more info than I really need.

Hi Herb and Lori,

We have a 7212 chartplotter as well. We used the VCA501L and the VUS517L (switched chips at Dixon Entrance) on our trip to Alaska this past year. The HXCA015R would get you the charts you need but I don’t think it will support autorouting (Guide To) in the 7212. You need a “Vison” series map in the 7212 to get the “Guide To” feature (thus the “V” in the map ID). Without “Guide To” you can still build your own routes and follow them or use Heading Hold but this is way too much work for us. We used the Guide To feature every day and it worked great the whole trip. Just remember to change chips at Dixon Entrance.

Since we are not going to Alaska in 2020, we would be willing to loan you our VUS517L SD card for your trip. Just promise to return it when you get back. Send me a PM with your address and I will send it to you by mail or if you are down in the states you could come by to pick it up. We are only 1 hour from the Anacortes ferry.

Curt and Tracy
