21 ec bilge pump

I just bought a 2007 Ranger tug 21-EC and like it very much. My only question is that when I turn the bilge pump on using the switch it pumps any water out but keeps running after that. Is that normal. Are you only supposed to use the switch manually and then turn it off when all water is pumped out? Thanks.

That's how it is supposed to work. The manual switch overrides the float switch which normally starts the pump at a certain level and shuts off when it gets down to a lower level. Note also that the manual switch is wired through the house battery master switch but the float switch is wired directly to the battery so the pump will run as needed even if the house master switch is off.
