21-EC hour meter not displaying.

Hoping that it’s something minor or a possible oversight, but my 2014 21-EC’s hour meter is not displaying. It’s been intermittent for the past couple weeks but today it’s not displaying any info. The tach works fine, and the display lights up, but no information is displayed. Anyone had this issue? It’s a Volvo and the boat is new to me with only 50 hours on it.

Tyler, I'm not familiar with the Volvo unit on your boat but sounds like a electrical problem. For troubleshooting I would check the electrical connections, a lose wire would create the problem your describing. Hopefully someone with a volvo with more knowledge of your unit will help you.

There is a black plastic box on the left side of the engine called an MDI that has several functions, including sending tach information to the display. These boxes have been problematic. If you can't find anything else wrong, you might trailer the boat to a Volvo (engine) dealer and have them temporarily hook up a test box to see if if solves the problem.

Digital Readouts on both Yanmar and Volvo panels may be electrical connection oriented......lots of U-Tube videos......but the Volvo black box has been problematic and might need a Volvo oriented tech to run a diagnostic if your connections check out...good luck...................

My hour meter disappears every year about Mid November when things get damp and cold. It reappears as soon as the cabin warms up. It’s been doing this for about the last 5 years. That’s on my Yanmar panel. Tach and light work fine.
