21 EC overhead lights

Sorry folks, I asked this once before, and the suggestions didn't work. I want to replace the white overhead light bulbs with led bulbs. How do you get access to the bulbs? Someone previously said to twist the gold trim rings. I have put a big pair of channel lock pliers on the rings and they won't turn. They also don't seem to want pry straight out. I hope you don't have to remove the whole center trim board and do it from the back somehow.

Assuming you have the same light fixtures as in my 2012 R27, I tried 3 times over the course of a season to remove them with success on the 3rd try. Don't use any tools, they will only ruin the bezel. I'm guessing the humidity in the air and my grip on that day just aligned favorably. If I was to do it again, I would buy one of those cheap jar openers that is essentially a soft circular pad of silicone. You use it by laying it over the jar top (bezel), gripping and turning. You could just put it in the palm of your hand and grip the bezel. Righty tighty (clockwise looking up), lefty loosey (counter clockwise looking up). They only move about 1/2 " to come off. Good luck!
