Hi Gang,

The Holding Tank Cleanout thread along with the No Stupid Questions thread got me thinking about this.

As a newbie to RT's and this being the first boat I've had with a holding tank, I'd like to ask you seasoned pro's what is the correct procedure for pumping your holding tank. My boat is at Kingston (moving to Everett next week). They gave me an adapter to screw into the waste drain port but I'm unsure if I need to open vents / valves before pumping.

Many thanks,
Mark

Mark. It’s fairly straight forward. There is a stop cock valve inside the cabinet under the captain’s seat. Depending on the position of the valve the waste will either go out the side discharge hole or is closed. When emptying the tank at a marina clean out station a hose is placed inside the waste discharge opening on the starboard side and suction is applied. There’s really nothing more to do. The suction from the hose will remove the waste. The macerator pump does not need to be engaged unless you are pumping out outside the legal limit for emptying the tank. Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Karl

Thanks Karl,

That makes perfect sense.
