21ec sink drain stop

I am stumped, on my sink there is roughly one foot of chain on the sink drain stop with a bolt on the end. Where is this bolt suppose to be screwed in? Or is this an aftermarket stopper? Thanks

Ours was the same for the sink in the 'V' berth.
My guess is that it's left like that to give you the option of either drilling a small hole to install it where it best suits you, or to to remove the bolt and chain altogether.
