Last year I won the Yanmar $500 250 hour service auction certificate at the Bremerton gathering. I will be making good on this certificate in mid September as my engine hours will be at approximately 250 hrs at that time.

I'm wondering if there are other items I should ask the marine servicing technician to examine/inspect that fall outside the Yanmar specified items to check/replace.

For those of you having already gone through your 250 hour service check can you recall or say what other things would be advisable for me to have checked/inspected and if necessary, replaced.

I'm thinking --

1) Batteries. They seems to be in good condition but I want them checked as they are now a little over 3 years old. Just what is the expected life span of the stock batteries provided by Ranger Tugs in their new boats ?

2) Engine prop shaft alignment

3) Engine zincs

4) Hose inspection and replacement

5) Gear oil replace

6) other things ????

Thanks...

Baz,

Items 2, 3, 4 and 5 on your list are already included as part of MER's 250 hour service (or at least they were when MER did the 250 service on Wolf Pack). They also cleaned out the strainer, checked cooling fluid, checked hoses and replaced the impeller, etc.

Gene: Was your old impeller in any way worn and/or had cracks, distorted, missing a vane etc ?

Barry,

The impeller that came out was in near-perfect condition. I was, indeed, pleasantly surprised.
