We are leaving in 2 weeks to take our new 27 from Seattle north to Desolation Sound. Unfortunately, I just realized I should have a Canadian Flag on the mast and an American flag flying on the stern while in Canada. I am in New Jersey and do not have access to the boat. Can anyone tell me the size of the flags that fit appropriately with the 27? Thank you

The general rule is that the U.S. should be one inch accross the top for every overall foot of your boat. Or the next size larger. Go to any chandlery and ask for a Canadian courtesy flag. They should be smaller than your U.S. flag.
As you noted, the U.S. flag should be mounted on a pole on the transom but if you have a dinghy mounted to your boat like we have, the flag can be hoisted on the halyard aft of the mast. The courtesy flag is then attached to the starboard shroud (cable) of the mast.
