Subject: 3 fire extinguishers on R29 CB ?

So the R29 CB requires 3 fire extinguishers. Where do people place the 3 fire extinguishers ? Thanks... 🙂

You are required by law to have a fire extinguisher on board if your boat has an engine and meets any of the following conditions - which the R29 CB does:

Your boat has closed compartments where portable fuel tanks may be stored.
Your boat has a double bottom that is not sealed to the hull and that is not completely filled with flotation materials.
Your boat has closed living spaces.
Your boat has permanently installed fuel tanks.
Or if your boat has an inboard engine.

For a vessel 26' to less than 40' with no fixed extinguisher system - two B-1 or one B-2 fire extinguisher. The fire extinguishers must be readily accessible and ideally should be mounted. One should be mounted in the berth and the other near the galley. The small B-1 fire extinguishers do not hold a lot of extinguishing material. Just enough to hopefully get you and your passengers off the vessel and lucky if it fully extinguishes a fire. I like to have three on board and keep one on the aft deck so if someone next to me has a fire, I have one to hand off to help them - and me.

At this point (having had 3 fire extinguishers delivered with my boat) I have one in forward stateroom and one above the galley along with a small fire blanket. I suspect the 3rd one will be placed/installed in the cockpit area somewhere - just have not decided where at this time.

Thanks.... 🙂

Barry: I installed one behind the stateroom tv. Another in the cave, on the wood panel to the left as you enter the cave...just past the A/C control. The other is loose on the side shelve in the cave.

Yes.... I did see you and grandson installing fire extinguisher behind TV in forward stateroom. 😉 🙂 I have one installed in fwd stateroom that is clearly visible for others as behind the TV is somewhat hidden from view.

Hi Barry.
On your cockpit fire extinguisher - I mounted one on the port side of the transom seat, There is a short Fore-aft spot above the Raw Water wash-down.... The supplied fire extinguisher fits very well there facing outboard.

I installed a second one in the stbd corner of the cabin on the horizontal shelf aft of the seat. just above the berth.

My third one is still loose, but after reading these posts, I will be installing it in the forward cabin shortly. I have heard a few good ideas.

I had my R29 CB USCG inspected yesterday and the question concerning how many fire extinguishers I required came up. I was told I need just two. So my third one RT gave me will sit loose somewhere but be at hand and no need to install it as the other two.
