My 2022 CB31 charger/inverter stopped working a few weeks ago, so my boat electrician removed it and installed a new 3000 watt Victron charger/inverter, which works on generator and shore power for a few seconds and cuts out, and continues to cycle in and out every few seconds. The inverter works just fine off the batteries, however, I am not using of course for the microwave and AC appliances, only to charge my phone. Batteries are fully charged off the alternator. My electrician thinks that my AC neutral wiring is not to ABYC standards, showed me a schematic by Blue Sea that is supposedly the correct wiring method, and wants to change it tomorrow to attempt to correct the issue. Has anyone heard of this before my electrician goes ahead and makes some changes to the factory wiring?

Problem solved, and it wasn’t a wiring issue. A call to Victron tech service helped us discover the need to change some settings under advanced options (using a Victron diagnostic app my electrician has) which solved the problem. I was able to recreate the issue by using the microwave and appliance on inverter only, which drew the batteries down to 10.8 volts for a few minutes, starting with a fully charge house battery bank. My electrician has installed many of these 50-amp 3000 watt Victron units and this is the first time he has encountered this issue. I also installed a Victron battery monitor on the house bank which will make it much easier to maintain the house batteries. I can monitor two battery banks or temperature, so I think I’ll add the starter battery to the second input at some point down the road.
