Hello All,

I think I have seen a thread involving a leak between the heat exchanger and the exhaust elbow somewhat common to the Md1-30, but can't find it. I indeed have evidence of leakage out of that joint. I remember the past contributors discussing an O-ring seal that tends to leak and corrode the joining parts. I would appreciate either a lead to the thread, or an explanation of what you do to solve the problem once you get the joint apart.

Hi Larry, Not sure if you will be able to open this link and this may not be what you are taking about. You can also search D1-30 Heat exchanger or Heat Exchanger inspection and you will find posts I made regarding the issue I had at the joint between the heat exchanger and the exhaust elbow.

Basically, on the discharge end cap area there are two o-rings. One in the end cap and a second one on the heat exchanger to tube bundle. The inside one keeps the glycol in the closed loop system and the one in the cap keeps the raw water from getting back into the closed loop system. A known problem has existed where raw water seeps past the o=ring in the cap and corrodes the casting on the heat exchanger of the D1-30.

Also Larry, I have pics in an album showing the corrosion I found on mine. (Heat Exchanger)

If this is the issue you are referring to and you are seeing seepage at the plastic end cap to heat exchanger joint I would recommend you pull the elbow and end cap ASAP especially if you run in salt water.

Sorry if I misunderstood your post and this is not what you are referring to.
