When I check the belts yesterday during a routine check, I found the alternator belt needed adjustment - not problem, pretty straightforward. The seawater belt was also kinda loose, but I could not see any way to adjust it, not could I find any guidance in any of the manuals, paper or online. All I could find were references to replacing the belt.

Can the tension on this belt be adjusted?

THANKS in ADVANCE of your HELP.

It is my understanding that there is no way to tension the belt. The pully and belt have groves and that keeps it aligned. You basically have to coax the belt on and off by prying it away fron the pully as you turn the flywheel with a socket and breaker bar. There is a special tool to install the belt and remover it, but I think you can do it without the tool though.
How many hours on the belt? Is it past the time that it should have been replaced?

Not sure how many hours on the belt. I have only had the boat for about 30 hours or so. The belt is so loose that it slips sometimes when the engine is first started. I think it probably slips at higher RPM, and might be part of the problem with rising temps at 3200 RPM and above. I have a spare and will work at getting it installed. Thanks for your help.

BTW - This is the first belt that I have ever seen that cannot be adjusted....interesting.
