I have the 7612 XSV at the main helm station and the 7612 on the flybridge.

I recently updated the software.

I added Navionics to my ipad and then synced with the system. This gives me Active Captain as an overlay on the entire system, which we really like.

The problem that I am having is that recently when I boot up the upper helm station, I have no contour lines/depths and it looks like Active Captain, but with no depths.

The 7612 XSV at the lower helm look like it always has, contour lines, etc., but with Active Captain.

I can't seem to get the upper help back to having contour lines and depth. Any suggestion?

Thank,
Bobby

The chartplotters are connected via the Garmin Marine Network RJ-11 cables.

I would start by checking those connectors on back of each unit.

Good luck.

I did the same thing as you but don’t have the overlay. I’m curious as to what you did to get the Navionics overlay.

Bobby, Did you update your Garmin charts ? Install the latest G3 update? If yes did you install a new updated SD card in both plotters? I'm not sure if this is needed I don't have tandem plotters. I'm asking this because it was brought to my attention last fall that not all water ways had complete contour lines and depths on the original G3 chart update. I was talking to MartyC about this. When on Lake Barclay I had full chart information as I cruised through the channel to Kentucky Lake the chart was a standard navigation information no depths or contours. The information I was given is the new G3 update has more information and the contours and depths will be seen in more area's now.

This may not be relevant if you have the same updated charts in both Garmin's. MartyC updated his Garmin G3 card I didn't. His 7612 showed more information than my 7612 did . We were rafted together. His had depths and contours mine did not in the area that we were boating in.. I have last years G3 he had the new update that was available in September. I'm not sure this means anything but I thought I would mention it.

Getting this reply from Garmin is disappointing...

There will not be a way for your device to read a G3 map without using an SD card. To get the best performance, use a class 10 32GB sd card and ensure that your system software is up to date before introducing a new map.

Thank you for choosing Garmin

I have two one year old 7612s that Garmin acknowledges will slow down if I upgrade. They really need to join the 'modern' world of over-the-air electronics and upgrades. Thankfully, due to home schooling, I 'donated' my iPad to my grandson and, have a justification to buy the latest and fastest. Three screens will be nice to have one each for GPS, Sonar and Radar. We get a lot of pea soup fog here and I really prefer a full dark radar screen.

I'm wondering if it could be a problem with the configuration. There are so many sub menus and options, that I always get very confused! One idea might be to do a factory reset and start over: https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp ... AD519.html

OTOH any hard reset has risk so I would proceed with caution and consider how much I cared about resetting it.

The fix:

I recently updated my 7612xsv at the lower helm.
My problem has been losing the regular charts at the upper help... The upper helm would jump to active captain with no contour lines.

Upon removing the memory chip that I used for upgrade of software at the lower helm, the 7612 on the upper helm has now gone back to normal.

Does that make sense?

Regarding resetting to factory. I did that first and it did not change anything. It did, however, wipe out all of my settings, such as the way I like to view gauges etc.

And about an early post in this thread regarding navionics on the Garmin, I was wrong. I can't get my navionics to overlay on the garmin.

Thanks for everyone's input.

Bobby
