I have a 2020 R27 OB. The preferred octane of 89 or higher is hard to find on the Puget Sound. What should I do. I recently added 60 gals of 87 octane unleaded from Shilshole to the 75 gals in the tank.

We run 87 most of the time. If we are up near Oak Harbor we fill with 89 octane. Not many places and the guys at Ranger Tugs and Yamaha say it’s ok. We have not noticed any performance issue. Just make sure it’s ethanol free. Copeville has ethanol so I would avoid them. Most every other marine fuel stop has ethanol free.

Des Moines and Oak Harbor are the only two I know of that have 89. They are also the least expensive usually. The F300 has knock sensors in it so 87 won't hurt it. Stay away from ethanol fuel, especially if you have the 9.9 kicker (carburetor).

Thanks so much !
