A/C Voltmeter on 2007 R-25

I've looked, but been unable to find the answer...
Under what circumstances should I see a reading on the A/C Voltmeter above the circuit switches? The D/C meter appears to be working whenever I turn on the batteries.

Joe,

If I am reading your post correctly you should see a/c voltage under two conditions: (a) when you have the boat connected to shore power and shore power main switch in the on position and (b) if you are disconnected from shore and have a generator wired into the boat system with generator switch in on position (safety slide must be moved to position over a/c switch before gen switch can be moved to on position), and gen set running.

Thank you for your replies. Those are what I was thinking, but the volt meter is not working. Of the three listed, only the "shore power" has been attempted. There is no inverter or "Gen Set". We'll be using a portable Honda 2000i plugged into the shore power connection.
The next question is, how critical is it that the volt meter is operational?

Hi Joe,

If the volt meter does not read voltage, you may have an open connection at the AC panel. Or it may be just as simple as the meter itself is broken. It would be prudent to determine which or what as the meter rarely fails. On the 27 we have a rotary switch that has to be on shore power position and the AC panel main breaker must be on for the meter to read when the power cord is connected to shore power. Check your power cord connectors to be sure that there is no corrosion or signs of arcing as this is common.

also check for a small switch near the meter. Some are set up so the meter can be on Line 1, Line 2, or off.

On my 2011 R-27 the 1-2-3 switch selections are for the D/C side batteries only. I assume that you are getting live outlets etc. when you are connected to the shore power? There is a main breaker 30 amps, if this is off the meter will be at zero and you should have no A/C power in the boat outlets or other A/C supplied equipment such as the water heater.

I'll check for an open on the panel. When I connected to shore power and turned the breaker switches to the "on" position, I had power to the 110 outlets. I think it's either an open, as Herb suggested, or the meter is broken. I'll continue troubleshooting and post a reply.

Well, I opened up the panel and immediately recognized I was in way over my head. I'll wait until someone more knowledgable than I can take a look. In the mean time, I have 110 to the outlets.
