We purchased our R-27 last summer, and the A/C worked fine all last summer, and the first few weeks of spring this year. But about a month ago, I had left the A/C on overnight, and when I came to the boat the next day, it had stopped cooling. No error codes, switching to heat on a cool night seams to work. Just no cooling. I don't think it could be an issue with the reversing valve, because it was set to cooling and functioning normally when it stopped working. Just in case, I tried crawling down the cave, removing the panel, and tapping the valve with a mallet like it recommends in the manual. Didn't help.

Well, according to Ranger and Webasto, the A/C unit has a 2 year Warrenty. The problem is, our local Ranger dealer claims we have to deal with any Warrenty work through Webasto. But the nearest Webasto dealer/service center is hundreds of miles away, and in a different state. They claim they cannot work in our state and cannot help us. The local marine A/C mechanic is telling us that the A/C unit can't be repaired, and wants to charge $3000 dollars to replace the entire A/C system with a different brand.

What do we do? We shouldn't have to spend thousands of dollars and tear our year old boat apart to fix a Warrenty issue, but Webasto and our Ranger dealer are basically telling us we are out of luck unless we want to tow our boat hundreds of miles(don't have a trailer).

Personally, I'd give this problem to the person/business who sold you the boat. Tell them the issue and see how they plan to correct the problem. If you don't get a reasonable solution post your complaint and the contact information on this site. If it's a dealer they won't want the adverse publicity. I purchased a "pre-owned" Ranger with A/C from a dealer during the winter months and was told the A/C was working. Guess what? Summer comes and .....no cool air. I contacted the seller/dealer months later and received a SMALL but satisfactory refund. The issue was handled professionally so I won't post the parties information.

If what Capt. Karl does not work I'd suggest making a call to the good folks at the Ranger Tug factory in Kent. You may have to wait until next week as most if not all will be at the annual Desolation Sound Cruise, but do call them if you don't get satisfaction. Ask for Andrew, Kenny or Ivan.

you have a wabasto a/c unit? I thought Ranger only used wabasto for diesel heat. Our a/c unit (marine aire) failed just after the 1 year warranty and we have not replaced it yet.

It was purchased new from a Ranger Tug dealer last summer. We contacted the dealer originally, and they were the ones who said we need to go to Webasto and that they couldn't help us. I will call them again, and give them another chance to attempt to rectify this. If they still refuse to help, blasting them online might be the next step.

Yes. Our 2015 R-27 has a Webasto FCF 12000 Air conditioner and reverse cycle heat. (Also, noticed you are in Falls Church. Assuming you are out on the Potomac, I'll have to keep an eye out for you! We have a slip on the Occoquan River, and can usually be found cruising anywhere south of Mt. Vernon with the occasional cruise up to DC.)

interesting. My understanding of Wabash a/c units is that they are cheaply made and don't last well. I did research when i was looking to replace our forward unit. They are definitely cheaper in price for replacement.

We are currently docked in Eastport (Annapolis) and we will return back to home base (James Creek Marina in Washington DC) at end of August.

Are you dealing with the one in Annapolis?

My stern thruster stopped working / intermittent on off, and they said I needed thruster replaced at a couple thousand dollars. so naturally I said ill have to wait on that .

I was replacing the batteries this past weekend and noticed the fuses , I looked at them and one was a dark brown color. so I ordered a new fuse just to see what would happen. damn if my stern thruster isn't working like new again! I was about to call the dealer and say NA NA NA NA..... you cant have any more of my money.

Point I'm making , its probly something simple, like the coolant leaked out over time. If so you should make them eat that as they didn't seal it up correctly.
