We have a 2012 Ranger 25SC. We have tried to use the generator to power the air conditioner. We have a MASI 2.7.
The generator starts and runs. The AC starts and runs only to stop drawing cooling water and shuts down after about ten minutes. Back on shore power, the AC runs fine.
We've really have not had a need to run the generator and I have been terrible not using it once in awhile to keep it operational....
Suggestions?
Thanks.

Hi Bill, we had the same problem on our 2014 25SC. It was a bad capacitor in the generator. Replaced it and haven't had a problem since.

Thanks! Where does one buy a replacement and can I install it myself?
Bill

Contact MASE, http://www.masenorthamerica.com/en/ they are located in FL.
Ask to speak to Sergio, tell him what is happening and he will tell you what the problem is and how to fix it.

Ditto on what Brian stated, Sergio will get you the part and walk you thru the install. As I recall the capacitor is located on the starboard side of the generator. You'll need to take the top and sides off to gain access to the part that needs replaced.

Do you get an error code and what is it? You seem to have two issues going on and there may be a common culprit. Does the generator and A/C get raw water from the same thru hull? It sounds like symptoms of raw water input. Then again I may not be understanding your explanation of the symptoms. The way I read it is your A/C stops pumping water. Also, your Generator shuts down. Is the A/C shutting down because of lack of power or water? The code will tell you that. Have you tried running your generator without a load and does it work okay? If your issue is lack of raw water it could be a dirty strainer or a restricted thru hull. It may supply enough water when only one system is being used, but not enough when they are both operating.

Hey Bill,
Any luck with the AC on the Gen problem? I am now having the same problem.. when the AC kicks on the volts on the needle on the fuse box drop down to 60volts and then trip the breaker..and the AC works fine on shore power. Just wondering if you got your problem fixed and what it was.

Had the engine, generator and air conditioner checked over and serviced. They put a new capacitor on the generator.
The mechanic did all sorts of tests and calculations. He believes that the 2.7 MASE generator is just not powerful enough to run the AC. It will run it, without anything else running, "but will probably blow your capacitor again." I wish I had never checked to see if it would run the AC at anchor after the five years that I've had the then new boat. After a thousand dollars, I'm no better off. We'll continue to use the AC when visiting marinas on shorepower.

My Mace runs the R25 generator with little difficulty.

Another data point--I had the same problem and same solution on my 2019 R27 with Webasco a/c unit and Westerbeke 3.5 KW generator. Generator would run other equipment but would not keep a/c pump running. Put in new capacitor and problem solved. I will carry a spare from now on. Also, tech suggested having no other loads on generator when starting a/c.

Sergio at Mase has retired. Talk to Joe. I had the same problem on my Mase 2.7. Got an error message of low voltage.
I replaced the capacitor only after making an extension harness. I can now take the top cover off the generator and the capacitor sits in the back top corner. The capacitor is rated at 25 microfarads. The bad one was reading 17 microfarads.
