I started our Alaska trip and have started a blog.

Thanks for posting, Russ. It is great fun to read about your trip and get a sense of what it is like boating there. Hopefully you will find time and wifi to keep posting your adventures 🙂. The photos are a great feature also!
 
Nice looking blog Russ and Toni, keep on keeping on and report back to us when you can. Some day we hope to make it that far north but in the mean time we can boat vicariously thru the two of you.

Sounds like a fabulous trip...halibut nirvana—so glad you could enjoy with Danny—and the plastic liner sounds like an ingenious solution for managing eau de poisson and preserving marital relations 🙂

We are moving on towards Glacier Bay after spending four days in Juneau. We fixed the movies on our blogspot: http://www.russportner.blogspot.com/ and will try to get the next post completed shortly.
 
Wonderful movies. What a thrill. Did you find yourselves breathing with the whales? We cruised for 3 hours with a pod of several humpbacks. After a while we would count the blows, 1-2-3, then we'd all take a deep breath when the tales came up. They took over our breathing. Just amazing. Thanks for the memory.

We got into some 5' seas on the beam that were pretty close together which made things uncomfotable for a few hours. I zig-zagged up and down, quartering the wind/waves when I could and we made it through OK. Mostly the seas have been 2'-3' and we can cruise in any direction, anytime.
 
We have a few more updates as we near the end of our cruise. We didn't get to see everything we would like to have seen because of weather, but that gives us a reason to come back some time in the future. One can really spend many, many years cruising here and never see it all. We have met a lot of people that have cruised SE Alaska for 4,5,6,7,and 8 seasons. Some people leave their boats here through the winter and return each summer. It really is the Last Frontier.
