I was wondering about the wide range of prices on the used 21. I know that age matters but 20,000 dollar swings seem wild. also I would like to know about problems with past models one former deale told me that they won't approve warranty

wantatug,

It's the options.
Go to Ranger Tugs site and download the 21 info stating the base price and pricing for installed options.
A/C, bow thruster and navigation packages can up the price an easy 10k. Also canvas upgrades and the traier, etc. You can approach 20k in options.
Some pricing may seem high at first. These are factory installed options and with waranty and not a UPS box delivery to your door. Decide what options you want from the factory and ones you can install yourself later and go from there.
In some cases the seller, boat dealer or individual, will not give warranties. Contact Ranger Tugs to arrange for any warrany work and they will set you up with repairs in your area.

Hope this helps, and good luck on your search.
There is a ton of info on this site, you have taken the right first step.

On the R-21, it also depends if the tug is the "Classic" version or the newer "EC." The classic has a smaller pilot house, mast and boom, no galley and porta-potty. The EC offers a head, fridge, small sink, small stove, open cockpit (with optional bimini cover) and the pilot house is a little wider and longer. The extra's add up when comparing a Classic to an EC. They are both great tugs! We love our R-21 Classic and an added bonus - we can mantain all her systems ourselves! Happy Tug Hunting!

When I bought my R21-EC in 2010, I got all the extras except air conditioning, and then added the electronics package from the R25, and a bimini with camper package that they had not invented yet for the R21. My boat cost $81k. That is considerably more than the base price of $50k. You can see the price of a new R21-EC can vary a lot.

Now, the price for a used R21 can vary depending upon condition, location (north, south, east west), accessories, classic vs EC etc. You might be able to save some money if you are willing to travel a little to get a less expensive boat.

Does this also include a trailer Rick?

On the R21 Classic, engine size is also a factor. They were powered in both 20hp and 30hp models. Someone mentioned that Ranger had built one powered with a 40 horse power plant.

Boat prices are related to only one thing, how desperate is the owner to sell?

Blue Healer, Yes, that included the trailer. Sorry I was late in answering - other things going on.
