Ever since we took delivery of our brand new C28 last summer I’ve never felt that the AC was quite adequate. I ended up figuring that is just the way it was and stopped thinking about it. Today while on my friends/slip neighbors C26, I noticed that his AC was *much* better than mine. Felt much colder and there was much more air movement... and he had it on a lot lower fan setting.

So, I started taking a look at mine again. Filter in the cave is perfectly clean. Air velocity out of the main vent in the cabin is “ok”, and air out of the vent in the berth is almost non-existent. I bent down and looked into the main vent and to my surprise I could see sunlight through the hull and what looked like a piece of double sided tape or some sort of sealant flapping away. I went back to my friends boat and it was nothing like that and his vent was a solid plastic enclosure.

What I’ve found is that for some reason a big hole was cut into my air box and whatever attempt was made to seal it back up didn’t work. I’m assuming this happened during assembly in the factory as I’ve never had any work done on the AC and we bought it brand new. As a result of this big hole at the top of the box, I’m losing most of my upward air into the void of the hull, rather than out of the vents like it should be.

I’ve attached a photo. Any suggestions on a proper way to resolve this? I would prefer something solid so it’s not noisy/flapping when the air is on, and something that is going to hold up to the heat here in the Chesapeake Bay area. Typical stick on adhesive, like the velcro to hold the curtains, just falls off quickly because of the heat. This will definitely need to be something more substantial. I’ve got an email into my dealer, but I thought I would ask here as well and possibly get the back story into why this would have been cut out in the first place.

Thanks!

Hello Eric,

If you would please send me the email directly and the dealer you purchased from, I will get the factory and dealer involved to find out why and how this is supposed to be done. Please forward on to andrewcustis@rangertugs.com.

Thank you,
