Hi to all,

My AC unit in my R21EC does not work this year. I winterized it properly, have the seacock open and water does come in ok. The fan runs ok and the controls seem to work ok in that the AC unit does have power to it (aka Fan blows alot of air ok).

I cleaned the battery terminals and the connecting wire to the batteries so I am ruling that part out since the fan runs fine and the AC when switched to on causes the fan to kick in properly as well (not just fan mode alone).

However, the water pump does not appear or feel to be running to draw in the sea water and pump it through the system. I removed the AC side hose at the pump to even try burping it to clear any air out but the pump is dormant. I am sure I'd here the pump running or feel it vibrating if it were.

I touched all the wires at the pump itself and all appears to be connected ok and traced them with my fingers as best and as far as I could and that did nothing for me as finding a problem.

I stuck my head into the hatch and looked behind the up to the back of control panel / thermostat and there is a WHITE wire dangling and not attached to anything. While all the other colored wires from the control panel are connected to wires running to the AC unit, it is just the white that seems to be an orphan.

Can anyone tell me if that whilte wire should be connected to anything or is it meant to be free.

Other than that I cannot find a circuit fuse for the AC (not that i can seem to see or touch) so if there is one can one of you good people tell me where it may be ?

Mystified here !

Hello "No Worries".

I had my AC pump do the same as you described this past winter. Although I can not tell you about the white wire I can tell you that my AC pump broke and had to be replaced....this may or may not be your problem but here are the trouble shooting steps I was advised to do. Close the sea cock lever and open the cover, after the cover is open open the sea cock to see if you have water flow. If so this is not the problem, if not then the pump is not getting water and you have an obstruction that needs cleared. Next, with the sea cock closed and the cover off take a water hose and run water into the discharge vent on the side of the boat. Here you're looking to clear any obstruction between the pump and discharge vent. You will also want to see water come out of your sea strainer you left open. Before you do this call or email Kenny or Andrew to discuss the white wire. Another trouble shooting item we were advised to do was to take the boat out onto the water (if you have a generator) with the genset running to see if you can force water into the scoop therefore trying to force any air pockets out of the system. After a short run turn the air on to see if the system functions. My guess, based on our own experience, is that if the white wire is not your problem and you have water flowing into the sea strainer and water comes from the discharge vent backwards when forced in with a water hose then you have a pump problem of some kind. Please let us know what your outcome is.

Thanks Jim. I did all the things you mentioned and I am gong to go back and retry forcing the water in backwards with the strainer open just for good measure. My gut tells me at this point if it is not the white wire from the AC/ thermostat control panel, that it has to be the pump. I have electrical power all the way through but the pump does not seem to be kicking in. I should hear it and be able to feel it running. I truly appreciate the feedback. Carl 😛

If there is good power arriving at the pump connection and it's not running, then it's either blocked or broken.

Hello Carl,

If you are still having problems with your AC unit please feel free to call me at the shop (253) 839-5213. We can go over a few trouble shooting items to try and resolve your issue.
