Just to make sure I am clear on this subject - To have AC while underway the generator must be running. The Yanmar diesel engine does not power AC while underway. Correct???? 2012 R25

Correct, need generator to power air conditioner.

Thank You Sir. I was almost 100 percent certain but it never hurts to ask. Much Appreciated.

Tugnut “Boatdreamer” has a Yanmar R27 and runs his air conditioning underway via the generator. He has to limit the speed of his boat because the air conditioning water circulation pump is incapable of picking up water above about 8-10 mph. He lives in South Florida and to increase the AC’s effectiveness, he has tinted the cabin windows and added an another air outlet in the port side near the floor for his dog.

Maybe he will see this thread and provide better details.

Bill pretty much covered my A/C system on Gratitude. Ours is an early 2012 R27 and if I run over 10 mph the A/C will lose its prime. I installed a larger sea strainer but that didn’t really help. The newer R27 uses a different pump but I’m not sure if it’s any larger or just a different vendor. Keep your generator and A/C strainers clean and you’ll enjoy being out on the water even on the hottest days.

Thanks Tim and Donna. Your comments are much appreciated. As a follow up (again, just to make sure I cam 100% correct) - I keep my R25 on a cable lift at my home on Lake Norman NC. To use the AC while on shorepower I will need to drop her in the water. Correct?

Yep, this is one of my future engineering projects, I want to use the Generator and the AC while on trailer in RV Camps. The AC requires raw water to operate

we have a 2013 model year R-27 and have never had a problem running a/c with generator at cruise or wide open.

Ours has always worked well, but you do have to keep the strainer clean.
