I have a 2009 R25 with a Cummins/Mercruiser qsd 2.0 engine, and no one is able to tell me what oil filter I can use. The last one I installed was a Quicksilver #35-879312041, but that number no longer crosses. I sent several calls and email to the factory with no results. There must be something that will fit short of installing a remote filter?

Hello,

I took that number and did a google search and found this place has 4 in stock.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Kevin Lamont

Just google it. Use "mercruiser" and the number rather than quicksilver. Several viable sources pop up. I never have found a third party(Fram, etc) alternative. Tried a couple that showed up on cross reference charts but they were not the right part. But have always been able to find the Mercruiser parts on line. I usually buy four at a time so only order every other year.

I am hoping that I could get the factory to verify if the part number I have is in fact the correct part, or a close fit. The filter is the last that came with the boat when I purchased it and have not been able to find a parts breakdown online.

That's the right part number. Here's a link to on-line parts diagrams and one potential supplier.

And here's a link to the specific page that shows the oil filter assembly.

That was very helpful, thank you. This makes me feel better that I have the right part, but I still think $18.00 for a oil filter is a lot! 😀 Just bought all 4 in stock!

Yes $18 is a lot for an oil filter. You could cross reference the part number to a less expensive brand for future reference. Mercruiser doesn't even bother to repackage the parts. They just stick a label on top. Sometimes over the top of the mfg p/n but sometimes just on top of the box. Below is a pic of the label on the box that the filter comes in. VM is the Italian company that actually manufactured the "Cummins" engine. I believe the filters are manufactured by Mahle which is an Austrian company. But there is no Mahle number on the box.

As a side note the Twin Disc transmission is also produced in Italy.

The oil filter for a Volvo D3 was $22 from RT last year so comparable. The big dollar item is the Crankcase filter 21368879. That little thing cost $132.00. I have no idea who makes it but that's outrageous. Once out of warranty I will think twice about changing every year.
