Is it possible to add a steering station in the cockpit on a boat that currently does not have one? I would really enjoy it for fishing, and wondering if anyone in the past has done it themselves. Or maybe it's better to have the factory do it (if they are willing)?

The only limits on modifications is your imagination! Cockpit helm station added to my R-21, pictures in my photo album. Lots of good information on the web with videos, depending on the system you have now IE: hydraulic or mechanical will determine the complexity of the upgrade. I do a lot of fishing and crabbing solo and it is worth its weight in gold! Good luck! Bob

When we bought our R29s a few years ago, I was told that is is not practical to add the factory aft helm station after the boat is built.
That being said, If you are planning a DIY install and had all the parts, it could be probably be done. It would not be for the faint of heart, though. The access isn't horrible to the hardware, but there would be plenty of hydraulic plumbing. There would be wiring for the throttle/shifter assy, etc.

If you were paying a marina by the hour, in addition to the price of the parts, My guess is that the price would get impractical in a hurry.

But, as others have said, anything is possible with enough determination and cash.....

I hope that helps.
