I have several planned winter modifications while Lenabell is on trailer at my farm. I have a Furuno 1623 radar that I am adding. I had previously added a garmin 3210 GPS & decided on separate stand-alone radar.

I have removed spice rack & curtain rack by helm. I have also gained access to area in cabin ceiling directly below false stack by removing long curved plywood peice from cabin overhead. Although this appears to expose what I think is the masthead light wiring I can not see exactly where it penetrates the cabin roof. I expect to have to pull up the false stack but wanted to wait till I fully understand how I will be routing cables up to mast.

I assume the cabin ceiling will not be waterproof while I have the false stack removed or is the wiring penetration sealed?

Will I need to drill another hole in roof below false stack to allow routing wiring or is there an existing hole that will allow radar connector to pass?

How heavy is the mast & false stack or should I disconnect & sit the mast aside before removing false stack (handle as 2 peices).

Bill, don't forget about the C-Dory thread on the Rangers. There is a lot of info there.

This thread spoke to your installation. Andrew Custis was there long before he was here! Wish he worked at C-Dory or he had a clone...

Good luck.

I, too, did the radar and GPS install on the Laurie Ann so I feel for your task. However, I was blessed with the offer of John Livingston to route the radome cables in the cabin during production of our boat thus saving me that task. On our hull 36, the stack comes off easily by taking out the the three or four screws at the base. By the way, inside the stack is a radar deflector that is fiberglassed in and that really makes the tug show up on other people's radars. So, if your stack does not have this deflector (which it should), I would use the opportunity to put one in.

We do not have the factory mast but it should pivot out of the way for your work.

The cables come through the cabin roof under this housing. The horns are mounted to this and they have plenty of wire so the horn/stack assembly can be easily moved. I believe that you are correct is saying that the cabin roof will not be weather tight with the stack removed. The stack makes a good place to house the length of radar cable not used in the routing. The space behind the chartplotter has too much in it to house the radar cable.

Having said all of this, Andrew is the best source of information for your project.

This one will be a lengthy email and hard for me to type it out. I will be happy to go over your installation and get you through it if you would like to call me on my cell phone. 253-230-0727. I have been all over the United States for the past month so this is the easiest to reach me on. Thanks and talk with you soon!
