I am a new R 23 owner and am getting acquainted with docking maneuvers using an outboard. For most of the past 30 years I had larger two engine boats except for five years with a Nordic 37. My new tug replaces an Eastern Sisu 22 that I had for just two years. On that boat I installed a spinner. It fit beautifully on a destroyer wheel and was a big help. The wood wheel on the R 23 is thicker and the type of spinner I used on the Sisu wouldn't work. Does anybody have experience with this device on a Ranger wheel?
Thanks. Gene Helveston

I, too, am in the same boat. (pun intended) I am a new R-23 owner, and my last boat was a 30' twin inboard, which I could easily maneuver anywhere. I find that going to a single outboard is challenging in that I am SO trained on twin screws, that old habits are hard to break. I rarely touched the wheel whilst docking, so spinning the wheel is new 😱

I will master this little gem, however! 😀

I spoke with Andrew at Ranger, since he also has an R-23, and he sent me a link to what he uses. It's an Amazon link, and I admittedly don't know the rules here as to posting a link. I suppose I could say to search "Black Label Spinner" and you'll see a black knob with a red "BL" in the center. 😉 (mods, please let me know if I've broken any rules!)

I have not ordered this yet... as I want something similar, but was hoping for something a little 'lower profile', as I am 'gut-challenged' (read: I barely fit behind the wheel) I do, however, like the 'clip-on' part of this unit. It seems like it might not mar the surface of the wheel as much as one that tightens on? Dunno.

If I find one that works better (or if I get the Black Label unit), I'll post my findings here.

Thanks Brian. I went to Amazon and was sent to Ebay. I bought a "'black Label Spinner". All the instructions were in Korean, bur it looked like there are three "fillers" to account for diameter of the wheel, rim that is. It cost 23.95 plus tax with free shipping. Can't go too far wrong. Two and a half hours on the site and I got this answer. I won't see my early May. it is in cozy heated storage in Harbor Springs.I will report then.

There are some really nice looking ones on Amazon, there wood and should match your factory steering wheel. Cost varies between $10 and $30, depending on vender. I don't have one on the main helm station, but do on the cockpit helm and love it. Bob
