Subject: Adjusting/fixing wiper mechanism on R29 CB
This is a FYI....
The other day my starboard wiper mechanism fell apart while underway when boat was heading into a strong wind with plenty of water/spray coming over the bow and onto the windshield. Suddenly the starboard wiper fell apart and made a frightening noise. I turned it off as quickly as I could.
During RT being at my boat the other day for resolving my AIS 800 issue(s) the RT techie also addressed the broken wiper mechanism.
In order to gain full access to the upper wiper arm connection points and the wiper motor shaft the speaker assembly in the windshield brow had to be completely removed. Not only this but between the RT techie and my self we had to turn the starboard wiper motor on and off several times to have the motor shaft rotated to a position for gaining access for a screw head (an Allen key I believe). This was quite tricky and between the RT techie being on his back and looking up into the speaker cavity he had to alert me to when to turn the wiper motor on and off such that he could gain access to a screw on the motor shaft.
The overall time to fix this wiper assembly took close to two hours and IMO could really not have been accomplished without two people working the issue.
This is just a heads-up for others that choose to work and repair the starboard wiper mechanism on the 2019 R29 CB NW Edition (in my case). It's not an easy thing to do.
...and BTW... these wipers work wonderfully, are high quality mechanisms, and clear the water from the windshield without streaking or leaving any visible water on the wiped area. I'm very impressed with these wipers.
