Hello,

I’m a new C-24 owner as of May 29th and last weekend I took her out on the Chesapeake! I ran the A/C on shore power and it never seemed to get cold enough. I was also getting the E1 fault every time I turned it on and had to turn it back off and on a few times to get her running. My boyfriend said the vent in the cabin is not in a good spot. It blows the cold air right into the wall above the sink in the cabin. The only other vent seems to be at the passenger side of the helm and again not in the best spot. Has anyone else had this problem? The whole reason I purchased the C24 coupe was because it advertised A/C not only on shore power but also with the inverter when out and about. The idea of roasting all summer under hot glass inside a coupe scares me a bit.

Thank you in advance for anyone who has insight on this.

Wendy

I would get the manual out and find out what the code E1 is, and troubleshoot. E1 commonly is a simple issue of maintenance normally, plugged filter or restricted air flow. I don't know what E1 designates for the unit on your boat but I would check that the air intake is not blocked, the vents discharging properly and are completely opened. There is good water flow discharging. Make sure the air duct work is connected properly. On my boat, Cutwater used cable ties to hold the flexible duct work in place. They did a poor job routing the duct work, it was in a confined area and the duct work fell off. Most of the cold air was blowing into the non living space of the boat.

On a hot summer day its not going to get frosty in the pilothouse with all the glass but it should stay comfortable. Was it demonstrated working properly when you took delivery of the boat? Did the technician show you how to operate the air and explain the functions?

Thank you for the prompt reply. There was no user’s manual for the A/C provided when I took delivery. I did return the boat for small items to be fixed and they mentioned the water flow for the A/C was not correctly coming in so maybe that was it. They demonstrated the A/C for me upon delivery but did so on the shore power and it was very brief before we went on the sea trial. Plus is was not too hot or humid outside. I was told the A/C is supposed to work with the inverter; however, the slow start and batteries for that to work had not yet been installed so I am also waiting for them to correct that. My biggest concern was the air flow vents not being in the correct spots because cold air was indeed coming in through the vents but it just wasn’t enough to cool either the cabin or the salon area. And the C-24 is not a large boat.

I had the same problem on my RT25SC. I found to make it comfortable in the cabin I need a fan blowing the cold air around the floor up to the cabin top. Also, if you did not get a user manual for the A/C check around the A/C unit. I found mine in front of the cooling coils which also gave me a E1 error. Good luck.

Can't you down load the manual?

I hope this isn't your case, but one person was complaining that A) he didn't get the AC manual and B) that the AC was not working well.
While investigating, he found the manual still in the AC unit as shipped from the factory, blocking the cooling coils!!

Try to find out the controller you have and find the manual for that. The AC unit in my C-28 is a Dometic and the Controller is a Passport I/O. I have not been able find a manual for the actual AC unit even with a search on the Dometic site.

I vaguely remember having this problem. I believe it was due to an inline back flow preventer valve on the line feeding sea water to the AC. The valve was installed reversed, preventing all but a trickle of water getting through to the A/C.

The manual, you can download it from the Webasto website, We had similar problem in our boat, was a code E3, we call Pocket Yacht, where we buy our boat and they contact Webasto and found the cause, that was a bad connection. Now the A/C is working very well. The people in Pocket Yacht are very professional and attentive to our needs, Thank you to Rob Tolber. They have to improve the air intake. We have yet some issues and PY in Jensen Beach is working in that.

Jose.

Thank you for all the great responses. I bought from Pocket Yacht too. I will let them know!!

I have a 2018 C24 Coupe and I might be able to help. I am on the Chesapeake bay also and have had problems but have a good working system now. Email me at kenkeir@gmail.com
