Has anyone tried the EVERQUIET Air Filter Silencer Kit - (4BY Yanmar Engine) -Kit # KWYAN4BY-1 from Walker AIRSEP? California based company touting what they say is a better product that reduces noise. At $279 is not cheap but neither is the stock Yanmar air filter.
Here’s the description from Walker AIRSEP:
Take YOUR diesel engine to the next level with this high performance air filter SILENCER. Designed as a direct replacement for the Yanmar stock air filter, the robust construction make it the ideal upgrade for your 4BY marine diesel engine. Incorporates a metal housing to fit in same space as stock filter.
The filter assembly helps reduce high frequency turbo noise by 2-5 dBa. Designed for reliability...and durability, the Walker air filter element is corrosion resistant, to withstand the toughest marine environmental conditions.
This kit includes specially designed turbo interface hose, clamps, and washable Walker Everquiet air filter silencer.
Still not convinced?... New 4BY engines for new boats after 2014 now offer the Walker Everquiet Air Filter Silencer as a Yanmar factory installed option.

Definitely looks like a viable alternative to stock. If you decide to buy, let us know your impressions. When the time comes to replace the air filter on my 4BY2-180, I will almost certainly go this route.

2-5 decibels reduction seems marginal. Any idea how many dBs are produced underway? Let's say its 100, then at best a 5% reduction doesn't seem like a whole lot and at worst 2% is barely discernible by the average person. Be interesting to hear what a buyers impressions are. G

I’ve used K&N filters in my cars for decades and really like them. Even installed on in my old airplane.
After 13 years and 1,100 hours in the boat our K&N type filter in the boat has seen better days. It just doesn’t clean up well anymore. The cleaning process is messy. And there’s cosmetic damage to the filter that has been there since before we bought the boat as well.
Agree that the noise reduction is probably minimal. Noise reduction was not the main motivation in looking to replace the original filter. Yanmar recommends cleaning or replacing the air filter every 250 hours. I think I’m at the replace point.
If I buy and install the Walker AIRSEP filter I’ll report back on my impressions.

I think I will do this when I replace my air filter in a couple of months on my 6BY. Noise reduction looks substantial enough to consider based on my research on db reduction vs perceived volume reduction.

db reduction->Perceived Volume Reduction
3->18.77%
6->34.02%

So we could easily be looking at a 25-30% reduction.

It's been a couple of years, has anyone tried this air filter replacement yet?
I replaced my stock Yanmar filter with one. I detected no change in noise or performance. The main difference is its much more robust materials and construction compared to the Yanmar.
