Does anyone have the K & N air filter cleaning kit part # for the Yanmar BY 180 HP engine?

Phil

This is what I use http://www.knfilters.com/search/product ... od=99-5050
They also sell the oil in a spray bottle/ kit. The kit is not specific to Yanmar engines, it is for the K & N brand filters.
You can get the kit on Amazon, my local Pep Boys Auto Store stocks the cleaning kit also.

I have the R-25 and Yanmar 4BY2-150 engine. It's maintenance manual calls for the air filter to be replaced every 250 hours. I recall when having the engine's 250 hr service that the technician claimed replacing it was unnecessary, and he did not do anything to clean it or 'replenish' it.

So, should the air filter be replaced every 250 hrs and what would kind of visual inspection aspects would constitute the air filter needing to be replaced ? I have 330 hrs on the engine and the air filter looks clean and is functioning correctly as best I can determine.

I would purchase a cleaning kit and clean the filter according to the instructions in the kit. You will probably be surprised as to what gets washed out. When it is dried you oil it, the oil is red so it will have a red hue. I do mine once or twice a season depending on how I use the boat. The contents of the kit goes a long way.

Brian: Fair enough... will do so... it's on my bucket list. Thanks. 🙂

Thanks Brian. Just what I need.

Must be the dusty water where you boat .

I'm doing the 250 hour service this fall, and have ignored the air filter until now. My boat gets lots of use during the spring pollen season....that would be the only significant airborne contaminant. Hey...the manual says do it. Who am I to argue.

I clean and re-oil mine every 125 hours or so. It is surprising how dirty it gets in this amount of time. The washing removes a lot of dirt, the rinse water is nearly black. I use the K & N kit, it will provide many cleanings. The filter looks like new after cleaning and re-oiling. Be sure to allow plenty of time for the filter to completely dry before you apply the oil.
