Regarding a 2012 R29 with air conditioning... I’m not sure what the air relay switch does. Could you please explain?

It's for the water coolant pump for the air con(s). If you don't turn it on you will get an air con fault due to high temperature on the compressor side. Ask me how I know.

And yes, AIR RELAY is a dumb name. It should be AIR CON PUMP in my opinion.
 
I should add that on our 31 the raw water flow from the thru hull to the air relay pump is self priming (useful as our boat is on a lift) but I was told at the time of delivery that not all Rangers are like this. You might have to "burp" the stainer next to the thru hull each time the boat is launched. And make sure the seacock is open as well of course.

Yes, you do need to flush or fill that water path with antifreeze. Since I'm in FL I haven't bothered to figure out how to do it though. 😛

Hi Tom, sorry for the delayed reply as we're just getting back from a trip down to Colorado.

The relay switch allows you to run two air conditioning units from a single raw water pump. Be sure to always have this breaker on whenever using either of the air conditioners.

I'm on a lift, too, and always close the seacock before lifting the boat out of the water, reopening it when I lower the boat. That allows me to avoid having to re-prime the pump.
 
I ran my reverse air heat for a whole day without opening a seacock and without turning on the air relay. I hope it didn't do any damage! I'm not aware of any fault, but I did notice that the next day when I tried to run the heat it would throw the panel switch or throw the reverse polarity switch in the transom cabinet. Now fast forward a few days - I'm on the boat again and now trying to run the heat WITH the relay switch on and seacocks open. The heat system runs, but water only flowed for a couple seconds in the strainer. Should it flow continuously and pump out the starboard side of the boat?
 
Yes, it should flow constantly in the strainer and have water coming out the through-hull. If you are sure the seacock is fully open and you had at least some water pump out the through-hull i would check to see if the supply path to the AIR RELAY is clogged, then the AIR RELAY impeller to see if it is healthy.
