We have a new R-25 OB with the Kenyon electric/ alcohol burner.
Health Canada banned the sale of denatured alcohol as a stove fuel in 2019. Since the user manual is pretty specific; "The burners are designed exclusively for denatured ethyl alcohol which is readily available as "alcohol stove fuel" at marine stores. DO NOT SUBSTITUTE ANY OTHER FUEL AS FIRE OR EXPLOSION COULD RESULT. A Denatured ethyl alcohol fire is readily extinguished by water, or by smothering it with a non-combustible material” can you suggest an alternative available in Canada?

Rob, You might want to check with the California boats as denatured ethyl alcohol has been banned there for quite some time, and I'm sure they use an alternative fuel source. My understanding is the only difference is that denatured alcohol has additives to make it undrinkable for us hard core alcoholics! I would use what they sell in the marine or camping supply store and not worry about it!

Thanks Bob. I already went down that route. Marine supply store; "nope, we don't have anything since it was banned." Camping stores same thing. It seems like some gas line antifreeze is ethanol/ methanol blend, others 90+% methanol.
Wonder what others are using, or if there is a specific recommendation from the factory.

Some choices for alcohol stoves listed in the back country horseman guide:
1. Pure methanol, paint department local hardware store
2.Pure ethanol, everclear from liquor store
3. Fuel line antifreeze, auto supply store
4. Rubbing alcohol, drug store
Some good info on the web as to the pros and cons of each of these alternative fuel sources.
Or you could order Klean Strip (Fuel) Denatured Alcohol from Amazon at $22.00 a gallon and see if they will ship to your location, if not maybe a road trip to a location they will deliver to.
Good luck Bob
