We took our R29 down to Alderbrook for thanksgiving and posted up on the east side of the dock behind Lady Alderbrook's impressive 22' beam. Went from Pleasant Harbor a day early because of weather warnings. The thanksgiving dinner we took to go to eat on our boat on the dock was delicious. The day after was sunny and bright and while the first mate did forest hikes, I ran the dinghy up to union marina a few miles away to restock provisions.
We were not aware of the day after thanksgiving tradition at Alderbrook of the arrival of Santa Claus by boat. Crews were setting up fireworks on the dock all afternoon. The Lady Alderbrook departs the dock to go pick up Santa Claus and return him to Alderbrook. By virtue of being there on the dock, we had to be 'deputized' into fire watch. When dark fell, we got to watch the Lady Alderbrook silently convey Santa Claus to the dock, only to be revealed when the ship's lights went on and the fireworks kicked off. Being 30' away from the fireworks launch platform was its own reward. Great production quality all around and nice to be in the middle of it.
Now that we know, we'll do it again next year.
