I have an agreement with a seller for a 2001 Ranger 21, As the old saying goes Im having one of those two happy days.
I have a boat to sell, which will cause me an even happier day when its gone.
Here is my short story. Im retired, live on the coast in Boothbay Maine. The boat will live on a mooring right on my property. I previously owned an Albin 27, on which I made a major cruise- I bought the boat in Ottawa Canada and brought it home Via the Rideau canal, Trent Severn waterway, Lake Huron, Detroit river, Lake Erie, Erie Canal, Hudson River, Long Island Sound and up the coast. If you like reading trip logs I did one on my web site at http://plsntcov.8m.com
After a few years I was simply not using the Albin much, and wanted a smaller boat. So I sold the Albin, and this spring I converted an open 20ft boat to a lobster boat style cabin. I put a new Yamaha 50 on it. I got it in the water and very quickly decided I didnt like going fast- lots of pounding off waves, and when I checked the fuel use I was burning about 5-6 gal per hour. Thats dumb!
I had looked at a ranger 21 before I bought the Albin, but at that time I had big cruising with my wife in mind, so the ranger 21 was to small. But now my wife is into gardening, not cruising, and any cruising I do will be solo.
So I found the ranger 21 on the web, and Ive made a deal with the owner. I have a survey scheduled for Monday Aug 1, and Ill be heading out on Tuesday to drive to FL.
My first trip will be towing up I95 behind my 2011 RAV4. This load is on the upper end of the RAVs rated load, so I expect Ill be going pretty slow. Anyone have experience with this?
Anyone with an R21 live along the I95 track, Id love to stop and visit a bit and learn about others use of the R21. Maybe dunk the boat in a couple places and do boat ride to break up the long haul.
