I was out boating on a friends Ranger 23 and we were practicing anchoring skills. On one retrieval he may have brought the anchor up to fast and it appears the anchor line folded over and became jammed . We have not been able to release it and now seeking guidance on how to work the rope loose again.
It is so jammed we are unable to pull it back down into the anchor locker or pull it out. We appreciate any and all guidance as new Ranger Tug boaters.
Thank you. Pete Limbacher

I have been successful freeing a jammed line by using a wooden dowel (or other similar wood stick) to push the jamb down through from the top. I would not recommend anything sharp or made of steel to avoid damaging your rope or the windlass.

Otherwise you can always disassemble it.

During one of my first uses of my anchor, I had a kink get stuck in the gypsy during deployment. I was able to free it by removing the anchor load on the gypsy (tieing rope to cleat) and slowly working/prying it out with a flat blade screw driver, being careful not to damage the rope or the gypsy. I have since put a swivel at the anchor connection, and also deploy my full rode once a year (in deep water) and let all twists get out.
