Anchoring Sometime you are better off not knowing the bottom

Arrived late. Recommended places nearby high and dry due to low lake levels at Lake Powell. This was best option. Anchor set firmly. Vicki did a great job of setting stern line using the SUP which kept us in place.

Ugh! Stuff of sleepless nights.
Miraculously, anchor freed easily in morning.
Just wish I’d never looked down!
 
Whoa! Gulp! That looks like it would eat an anchor! Glad you were able to retrieve it!

I like to turn the plotter into split screen when going into an anchorage for the first time. One side shows chart details zoomed in and the other show sonar image. The sonar image will give an indication of bottom structure. From it you can determine the depth of the strata and if sand mud or rock. Not fail proof but another source of info!
