We have a small terrier and want to go anchoring in our C-28. Anyone have experience using pads for peeing in the cockpit or other ideas. Can't always get to shore when "Duffy" needs to go
thanks

FYI,
We tried anchoring with our cats and they tend to freak out when you connect the chain around their necks and they try to swim to shore. Our advice is to get a good fluke anchor. They hold well and you don't have to dry them off when retrieved.

Cheers!

We have a springer spaniel named "Tess" and we tried everything we could think of to get her to go on the boat, including the pads, fake grass, you name it. She would not buy any of it, so we row the dingy to shore after supper and first thing in the morning. Not a bad routine , we both get some exercise! With a younger dog it may be possible to train them but our gal is getting on in years and is pretty set in her ways.

When I had my catamaran, I got my dog used the first time to use the trampoline. Whatever they use first they get used to. Feed them in the cockpit and then within 30 minutes they like to go, and maneuver them to the swim platform which is easier to clean. You don't have to be on a trip, it works open the slip as well. Just pick up the poop instead of flushing it into the marina. You can also prescent the swim platform with some of your dogs smell which makes it more familiar to them, if you know what I mean. Doesn't take much "scent" for this.

Older dogs can usually hold their business for some time and it's up to you to time their feeding. Most dogs don't need to eat mornings, noon and dinner all the time. Puppies usually can hold "age in months + 1" in hours. Prescenting helps.
