I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0. It has GPS with GLOSS built in. One of the functions I wanted to do was use it for a backup chart plotter and download Navionics. I went to their web site to search for the software for the west coast including Canada. Cannot seem to find that chart or map to download. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Jim,

Go to the Google Play store which is where you will find apps for your Android operating system. Search for Navionics, you will want the US and Canada coastal version as you will want it to work in the San Juan and Gulf Islands.

Post back if you do not find it and I will verify what I have on my Droid X. I am able to buy apps in the Google Play and they send them to my phone automatically. You may have to buy the app for a small amount and then add the charts with an "in APP" purchase.

You might want to try MX Mariner on your android as well. It is a chartplotter and it has Active Captain intergrated. Here is the link to it on the Google Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mx.mariner. Active Captain integration will give you hazards, anchorages, marinas, local information, etc - very good information if you are cruising.

Want to thank those who responded. I had some time so I went to the Samsung guys at Best Buy and after some confusion we were able to figure out what had to be done. Very very confusing web site!!

I've been using MX Mariner for quite some time on my Android tablet. About 2 days ago I added Active Captain. Mx Mariner has not worked since. The problem appears to be that the GPS on the tablet no longer senses a GPS location.

Thoughts anyone?

Yes it worked fine with everything else. I got out my other tablet which is exactly the same and checked all the settings including the ones in MX Mariner. They were all the same. I turned it off and left it alone. I came back and turned it back on a while later and still the same thing. Late in the evening I brought it to bed and thought I'd take another look at it. It started working fine and all the Active Captain information showed on the maps too. Including the damn Walmarts. Perhaps all it took was a few reboots. Got me!

David, It could be all the Active Captain stuff had not downloaded and setup completely. Glad it is working for you. It is nice to have the Active Captain info with you on the water, especially if you are cruising. Enjoy.
