We spent most of the day out on the water of the beautiful Laguna Madre. We took a picnic lunch and anchored out in Barracuda Cove, watching the boat traffic and families out for the day on Boca Chica beach. A pleasant day. On the way home we topped off our diesel, took 2.8 gallons. We have been out on the bay at least 4 times for this amount....$7.03 at $2.45 per gallon. We do not go fast, but we go for little dollars.

The Admiral took the helm for a while:

Jake the boat dog watching for dolphins:

These were taken with my Droid...as we forgot the chip for the real camera, not too bad.

Looks good, Herb. Quite the opposite here today: there was frost on the cruiseboat windows when I went in this morning. Driving the boat out of Colter Bay towards the Tetons is a pretty nice way to start the day, though. 😉

What's the water temp back home these days?

Best wishes,
Jim

Water temp here is 37 - 40º, Herb! 😱 But, that's OK, cause the air temp has been pretty much in the 50s during the day!!! Don't you worry about us... so far, they're keeping me VERY busy, so I haven't had much time to be concerned about the cold. It's beautiful everywhere you look here, and something different all the time. You know, not that same ol' beautiful sunny skies, warm breezes, and warm water of the Tropical Tip. At one point yesterday, I had 5 layers on (top layer was a rain coat) while we went through 3 seasons in a day. I got it down to two layers when the mercury spiked all the way up to 58º.

Tell the dolphins I said, "Hi, kids - see you in the fall." Hugs to you and Wilma, ear scratches for Jake.

Best wishes,
Jim

Didn't mean to hijack your thread. Enjoy the warmth.

Hi Jack anytime. We look forward to seeing the Tetons again, just waiting for it to get a little warmer. How is your schedule? Enough time off to play? My friend with the cabin at Island Park sent pictures of a Bull Bison wandering around West Yellowstone. Seems he tired of the park and ventured out on his own for a while.

Probably a common sight up there.

The time off will depend on when you visit. It's shaping up to be a very busy season, so all the captains are working more days than originally discussed, even though they hired an additional captain. Keep us posted when the time gets closer. I understand waiting for the warmth. If the global warming predictions come to pass, it should be plenty warm in a thousand years or so. 😉 Even in July, you can expect nighttime low temps to be in the low 40s... or into the thir-thir-thir-thirties.

Bring some fleece and long pants.

Plenty of buffalo, moose, elk, and bear around here. We saw a nesting pair of bald eagles this morning from the cruise boat. A big animal near the road creates what is called a "bear jam"... think: traffic jam caused by all the tourists stopping to take photos... sometimes in the middle of the road... with all 4 doors open on the car.

Fortunately, we don't have to drive out onto the main road to get from our 5th wheel to the marina. I could walk it; well, maybe when I've totally acclimated to the elevation. 😎

Best wishes,
Jim
