Hi:

ActiveCaptain recently (April 15, 2015) sent out a news letter indicating Pocket Mariner's intention to add some useful navigation aids to the Apple Watch. See http://pocketmariner.com/apple-watch-pocket-mariner-apps/

What are other's impressions of this ? Will it/they be useful/helpful etc to you ?

For me, having info on my wrist would be useful.

Thanks... 🙂

You may want something on your wrist that is at least water resistant. Apple watch and water is not a good mix.

Yes thanks..., the water resistance aspect is so noted. However, I would be wearing it inside cabin most of the time so it would be protected in that regards. In looking back over the years I can't recall a situation where my wrist was ever drenched in water while on the boat. I wear a watch on my left arm and use my right arm for doing most things dealing with water.

From AppleInsider:

Under the IPX7 designation, the Apple Watch will be able to withstand immersion in water up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes. This means that a session in the shower, getting caught in the rain, or washing your hands will not cause damage, but prolonged exposure — such as swimming — would be harmful.

Apple says that users "can, for example, wear and use Apple Watch during exercise, in the rain, and while washing [their] hands, but submerging Apple Watch is not recommended." The water resistance rating applies equally to each model of the watch.

My focus will continue to be on making sure my iPhone is secure, in a deep, or buttoned, or velcro secured pocket. The watch won't be falling off my wrist.

Wow.... I'm impressed with that IPX7 designation.... just need to keep myself no further down than 1 meter in the water. 😉 I get my Apple 42mm SS Watch in June.

This is a link to Consumer Reports preliminary test on the watch. Very good for water resistance and scratch resistance.

Oh... that was a useful review.... The SS watch scratch resistance test was an awesome piece of info to hear about (just under diamond...)... and the water resistance test was good to see.... much better than I expected or the doom sayers of the past. 😱
