Maybe I'm the only owner who has this issue, but the fixed atrium skylights in my r27 look great - except when its blazing hot out - I've registered 90+ degrees on a thermometer on the dash that was in the spotlight, or at a marina where the security lights happen to shine through when you want it dark to sleep.

Anyway, has anyone made covers - like teak plywood, or other material, or tried very dark window tint film ? I'm looking to learn from other's experience. I already tried using the reflective mylar and velcro dots, but the windows get hot enough that the velcro dots melt off.

Just something I'd like to solve before next summer.

We boat our R29 in the Great Lakes and have the same issue in the summer months. We had the person that made our canvas cockpit enclosure make white Phifertex covers for the fixed skylights in our R29 (which are even more extensive than those in the R27). He used Phifertex that was even more tightly woven than the standard weave which blocks out a significant amount of the heat but still allows in plenty of light. The covers are affixed with white YKK Snads that easily affix to the roof without requiring any holes to be drilled and are not unsightly in cooler temps when the covers are not being used.

Cruising in south central Alaska during the summer, I had the need to keep some of the 'midnight sun' out of the cabin to help us sleep. So I came up with a low budget and simple solution. I purchased a dark brown plastic tarpaulin and 1" velcro strips off Amazon. I cut the tarp into shades the correct size and used the 1" velcro strips in each corner of the sky light frame to hold them in place. They are simple to put in place and remove and take up very little storage space. Relative darkness for @ $20.

Stay safe.

We did limo tint on them and I really like it. Cuts down UV, but I can still see out of them.
