Seems that there is not too much information on how to attach these numbers permanently to your boat.

I have purchased at set of black vinyl stick-on numbers in the required “Minimum 3 Inch high straight (not slanted)” format:
NO.1234567
From Steve Breton of Decals Plus of Maine for $14.50 including tax and postage.

My plan is to stick them on inside my starboard locker - then fiberglass them over, but I have a hard time finding a pint container of LIQUID fiberglass resin as well as a small piece of transparent fiberglass cloth to cover the numbers.

Any suggestions? (Forget about the crappy 3M Bondo kit).

I’ve only applied resin over the doc. Numbers on 4 boats over the last 20 years. Rough up the area you’re going to apply the numbers, clean with a thinner and let dry. Apply your numbers, tape the area off around the numbers and apply resin. I usually apply 2 coats. This is what I’ve done, I’m sure there are other ways that work well. As long as the numbers are visible and can not be removed you’ll be good to go.

Jim,

Could you tell me specifically what type/brand of resin you use?

I’m going to be up to this project soon.

Thank you.

Revised my plan. The numbers have to be permanently attached to the hull. On our boat, there is a perfect sized place in the “Cave” on the wall next to the toilet. And it is hidden out of sight when the padded seat is down.

I used two applications of Gorilla fiberglass epoxy applied with a spatula to cover the vinyl numbers - and that meets the C.G. Mandate.
