Has any one installed a auto pilot after purchase?
looking for info, pictures, to fit a auto pilot with a C120 raymarine nav system on a R25.
ship yard quoting 35 hours labor to install.
Any info would be great
Thanks

We're adding Garmin auto pilot to our R27 after the fact and we were quoted 18 hours of labor for installation... plus the auto pilot parts course. A second opinion might be in order, unless their labor rate is half what anyone else charges.

Give Andrew a call. I did an after the fact autopilot install on our 2009 R25, Garmin autopilot to Garmin 5212. Andrew sent me a complete set of instructions with detailed step-by-step photos. I think I still have them around some place; however, I am sure Andrew has them at fingertip and could get them to you quicker. We have a certified (Garmin) technician at our marina who accomplished the install as I took a long look at instructions Andrew sent plus the Garmin instructions - electrical and NEMA interface was okay but oh boy the hydraulic lines to plumb in and run from helm to transom mounted pump was an area which I did not feel comfortable with.

I also installed a Garmin autopilot in our 2009 R25. I used Andrew's write-up with pictures. The pump was installed behind the 110 panel accessed from the electrical closet behind the helm. With Andrew's package, the install went well and has worked for 3 years without any problems.

Thanks All
I will email Andrew and see if he still has this info

I know alot of people put down the Raymarine S1000 but I installed one 3 years back and you can not get anything else for $1000. The unit works great on my boat from any speed above 3 kts. Since the rudder angle and compass are not needed (software just uses my Garmin GPS course info) there is less effort to install these units than those costing more and requiring an actual course/rudder position input. I had discussed these with several other tug owners before I installed it and can not see any reason for spending any more money.

Put my Raymarine S1000 in my self in about 3 1/2 hours. If you knew me and how I get along with tools, you would know just how easy the install went.

Love it, works great. Every item needed came in the box. Only down side, And I don't really consider it a downside, is that it won't pick up a course /track change on it's own, nor will it work with "Auto Guidance" at all. You must tell it to pick up the new track at each way point. Not much of an issue at all to me. Paid $1,090.00 including a 3 year extended coverage. just under 550 hours with no problems.
