Automatic Bilge Pump

I have a 2017 C30CB. How do I know if I have an automatic bilge pump? I live near my boat and check on it frequently and often when I arrive the bilge pump is running and bilge is dry. There is no drip from the stuffing box so that is not an issue.
When I pour water in the bilge it pumps out normally. If my pump is running for lengthy periods without water in the bilge why hasn't the pump motor burned out(happy it hasn't).
What am I missing here?

Do a search ( auto bilge pumps) you will then understand more about troubleshooting the pumps. If you have a newer Cutwater and it has a Rule pump installed it has an auto sensing pump feature that turns on for seconds senses load if water is present to pump if no load it shuts off. There are several threads explaining it better.

At the start of every season on the hard I test a the pumps and clean the bilge. I take a hose and fill the bilge with water to see how my pumps react. At the same time do a quick cleaning. I want to know that those pumps are working.
