I have a 2008 Ranger R25. When I turn on the battery charger, either with shore power or my generator, the reverse polarity light comes on. 1.) what can I check to fix this and 2.) is it harmful to run like that? It has been this way since I got it.

Yes, only when I turn on the charger. Both with shore power and the generator.

Check out your charger? It sounds like you may have an issue with the connections. Perhaps something inside the unit has shorted out. Try disconnecting the lines on the output side of the charger and see if the reverse polarity goes off. If not then try disconnecting the power to the charger and see if the reverse polarity goes off. if it does not you may have an issue with the feed to the charger. What surprises me is the reverse polarity should be detecting and issue with the feed to the boat not something after the feed.
