I just purchased a 2014 R27. It has not been delivered yet, but it still has the original batteries which are weak. Since I cannot physically inspect the batteries, it would be helpful if I could be provided with the specifications in order to shop for replacements. Thank you.

Per some prior posts, the 2014 R27 Classic originally came with Group 31 sized batteries. Several folks have used the smaller Group 27 sized batteries in their R27 Classics with success.
The whole discussion about the benefits using AGM vs conventional flooded type batteries will go on forever.....

Our 2011 R27 Classic came with brand new Group 31 AGM batteries when we bought it two years ago. With the original solar panel and Morningstar controller, we couldn't keep up with the electrical demands for more than a couple of days on the hook, even on long, sunny summer days. We replaced the solar panel with two new high efficiency panels and a Victron MPPT controller, and now we are able to stay on the hook for days during the summer without worrying about shore power or running the engine. I don't know if that would be the case with Group 27s.

they may be the same as the Cutwater 28 batteries. If the AGM option was installed they are universal batteries.

i ordered replacements from Amazon as shipping was cheap!

If you go to that link. At the bottom of that page is a video of the best marine batteries. The Odyssey battery is high on there list. I have 5 of them, 3 out of the 5 are hitting 10 years old and the other 2 are around 7 or 8 years old. Still going strong.

We bought YOLO new in summer 2010. She came with 4 Group 27 sealed lead acid batteries (3 deep cycle, 1 starting). I replaced them in April 2015 with similar Exide Nautilus marine batteries. I just replaced them again last week (5 years to the day) with 4 similar Interstate marine batteries. This matches the general consensus that the life of this type of battery is about 5 years.

YOLO has a generator, no solar panel. If on the hook or a mooring for multiple days, we use the generator with battery charger to top them off. In the 10 years we have owned YOLO, we have had no issues or complaints.

You do get about an hour more capacity using the group 31 compared to the group 27. The average 31 is 10AH to 12AH more capacity compared to a group 27. Here is a comparison I made. NorthStar group 31 = 103ah, group 27 92ah. two batteries in house bank 206 ah -Group 31, 184 ah group 27, each battery bank used to 50% discharge Group 31 103 ah, group 27 92ah, both battery banks with a continual draw of 10 amps. Group 31 10.3 hours, Group 27 9.2 hours. There is a difference but not a large difference. The big difference between the Group 31 and Group 27 is the cranking amps. If your boat as a larger D4 or D6 or the 6 cylinder Yanmar diesel the advantage of the group 31 would be higher cranking amps for starting. If you have a D3 or 4 cylinder Yanmar, or Mercruiser the Group 27 cranking amps should meet cranking requirements. Using the capacities of the brand NorthStar Group 27 92ah and 930 CCA or 1080 MCA, Group 31 103 AH 1150 CCA or 1370 MCA. The weight of a AGM Northstar group 27 is 67lbs and group 31 is 75lbs. My choice was Group 27 mostly because of weight. I had originally installed maintenance free group 27 weighing less than 50lbs. I replaced all 4 batteries in a stern weight sensitive boat. Group 31 would have added just over 100lbs it was bad enough with group 27 but 32lbs lighter than the group 31.
